Originally organized in response to the 2005 proposed Institutional Master Plan (IMP) of the California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), CHNA has gone on to represent the concerns of Cathedral Hill neighborhood residents and organizations at the Board of Permit Appeals, SF Planning Commission, SF Health Commission, Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and Board of Supervisors hearings on both local and citywide land use, open space and transportation issues. Since 2006, the majority of legislation, policies and development proposals supported or opposed on Cathedral Hill has been through the efforts of the Cathedral Hill Neighbors Association (CHNA).

History of CHNA
CHNA participates in the San Francisco Neighborhood Network, the Coalition for San Francisco Neighborhoods, the Japantown Task Force, SOS Save Cathedral Hill, SAFE Cathedral Hill and the VanNess Neighborhood Alliance. CHNA became a registered 501(c)4 not for profit organization in 2006, with authority to endorse policies and initiatives but not candidates for office.
